Jackson. After pastoring for many years in New Britain and Danbury CT., the Lord led him to begin a mission in Hartford, the city of his home. The church, then called the Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ, was first located on Pleasant Street in Hartford. Bishop Jackson's first wife, Mother Rosia Lee Jackson, together with several of their 13 children, worked faithfully by his side. The Founder 's Bishop Allen M. Jackson and Mother Rosia Lee Jackson Over the years, the church occupied many locations. In 1976, the late Bishop Jackson, realizing that his ministering days were limited, was moved to purchase a building so that he co leave a permanent place for the saints to worship upon his passing. At the age of 80, Bishop Jackson, together with a small group of saints, purchased this building which was then a gas station. The saints and the Bishop then began the tedious task of transforming the building from a filling station for cars to a filling station for souls. On July 13,1981, about 3 years after we had completed the first stage of the initial renovation, the Lord called Bishop Jackson home to be with Him. Prior to his departure, Bishop Jackson, being a man of wisdom and insight, publicly designated the then Elder Richard Gatling Sr. as the next pastor of Gospel Temple. Because of this act of foresight, upon the death of Bishop Jackson, the new pastoral transition was smoother than most. Bishop Gatling, who had worked loyally with Bishop Jackson for several years, took the helm and proceeded to go forward with the work which had been started. Later that same year, wanting to remember our late pastor who had literally given his life for the work of the lord, Pastor Gatling was approached with the idea of changing the name of the church as a memorial to this great man. He readily accepted the idea and Gospel Temple then became Jackson Memorial. God then gave Bishop Gatling the vision to renovate the original structure and add on the new addition as it stands today. The vision continues...
